Special note from John Odam:

While both Jeron Stevens and Janice were in the hospital, with Janice on life support from a brain aneurysm in San Antonio.   Billy and Beverly Hunt put John in touch with her family to see if they would donate her liver to Jeron.  (Jeron needed a liver transplant.)  Janice didn't match Jeron -- her organs went to other donees -- and Jeron didn't make it either,  but we all tried for one class member to save the life of another.

    Lynda Gayle Neuman went to be with the Lord on August 6, 2013, shortly after her 70th birthday. She spent her final days surrounded by those she loved and who loved her. She is survived by her husband of nearly 45 years, John, her two children, and her three grandchildren.
    Born in Abilene, Texas, in 1943, Lynda never let go of her Texas roots, even though many of her adult years were spent elsewhere. She and John spent their 45 years together in many places around the globe before finally settling back in Oregon in 1993.
   An avid wrestling fan, Lynda spent many hours educating those around her about the ins and outs of the WWE. She was never one to miss a pay-per-view match. When she wasn't watching wrestling, you could also find her reading a good sci-fi book or humming her favorite tunes.

Rememberance of Doug Beyer by his friend, Spencer Taylor

The service was nothing different than any other service except that it was my friend being buried and I missed him greatly. Counting Doug and me there were 5 people there that were in my wedding party 41 yrs ago that day. The others being Doug’s cousin Ronny Beyer, our classmate Richard Crowell and a friend named Herluth Faulks.

Doug and I met the summer of 1958. He was delivering papers for the Reporter News and I had the route next to his. We were finished delivering our routes and were both behind Throntons on so 14th and Barrow stealing a stalk of banana’s and donuts. We had been doing that all summer but never at the same time until that day. He was riding a cushman eagle and I was on a sears scooter. After that we met every morning except Sunday until school started. For some reason we stayed friends for the rest of our lives. We sometimes went years without seeing one another but always stayed in touch by Christmas cards. Doug ‘s wife Betty, was great at keeping us informed about what was going on with their family and Gayle would do the same. When he retired in 2000 at Lake Brownwood we got back together and saw each other often. He and Betty came to Colorado to visit us in the summer and we spent a couple of New years eve’s with them. We met at different places to eat during the year and I know I really looked forward to our times together. One thing is for sure, I am really going to miss him!

Ronald Gordon "Ron" BREDEMEYER  [09 Dec 1942 - 14 Aug 2015]

~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Obituary ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ronald (Ron) G. Bredemeyer, 72, was received into the Kingdom of Heaven on Friday, August 14, 2015. Visitation will be held at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road on Sunday, August 16, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. A celebration of Ron’s life will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 17, 2015 at Wylie Methodist Church, 3430 Antilley Road.
Ron was born December 9, 1942 in Big Spring, TX to Walter E. and Frances (Bradshaw) Bredemeyer. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1961 and upon completion of his Master’s Degree from Texas Tech University, served his country in the U.S. Air Force. There he was an instructor pilot, achieving the rank of Captain, at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, TX. He married his hometown sweetheart, Brenda K. Gamblin on June 25, 1966.
Ron began his civilian career in the transportation industry with Merchants Fast Motor Lines in 1973. In 1981 Ron left Merchants to fulfill a dream of owning his own oil-drilling company and started Morning Star Drilling, but his love and vast knowledge of the transportation industry led him back. Ron became a leading authority in the heavy haul trucking industry and was an expert in transportation maintenance. He then continued a long career with Merchants, Texas Kenworth and Coastal Transport. Ron finally took that expertise and opened Bredemeyer & Associates and became a nationally recognized authority in transportation consulting and litigation support, where he worked until his retirement in 2012.
An avid lover of life, he spent his days with family and friends doing what he loved most and learning everything he could about what interested him. Ron enjoyed spending time in the outdoors hunting and fishing. He was a car enthusiast and often restored vintage trucks with his children and grandchildren. His great love was traveling our country’s beautiful landscape in his RV with Brenda by his side. They made new friends at every park they visited, but their “home away from home” became the Buckhorn Lake Resort in Kerrville, where Ron and Brenda spent the majority of their time with dear friends. Ron was most passionate about learning the Word of Christ and sharing God’s message. He loved to lead worship in his home, in Sunday school class, with Big Country Emmaus, and for small Methodist churches around Texas. He wrote regularly to friends and families about his health progression and always closed each letter with a promise that one day he would be “resting in His lap” in the Kingdom of Heaven. A man of dignity and filled with God’s grace, Ron never missed an opportunity to make certain that those he met knew of God’s salvation and the promise of everlasting life.
Ron is survived his wife, Brenda of Abilene; his daughter, Kim Bouldin and her husband Brian of Poolville, TX; his son, Kevin and wife Allison of Abilene; four grandsons: Chris Hennesay and wife Chelsey of Springtown, TX, Austin Hennesay of Abilene, and Benjamin and Boone Bredemeyer of Abilene. Also, one sister, Sheila Collier of Brownwood, TX; three great-granddaughters: Blaklee, Kambrynn, and Lakyn; sisters and brothers in law: Helen and David Whitmire of Abilene and Ken and Kathleen Gamblin of Colorado Springs, CO and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by both parents: Walter and Frances Bredemeyer; and one brother, Kenneth Bredemeyer.
The family wishes to thank Texas Oncology in Abilene and MD Anderson in Houston, TX as well as the nurses at Abilene Regional Medical Center and Big Country Hospice. Robert Lee "Bob" BRYANT  [18 Nov 1942 - March 18, 2015]
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a loving husband and father, Robert (Bob) Lee Bryant.  Robert "Bob" was born on Nov. 18, 1942 in Texarkana, AR to Robert F. and Bertie Lee STICE BRYANT PHILLEY.
Private funeral service and interment will be held at Shiloh Baptist Cemetery (Shiloh Cemetery), in Texarkana, Arkansas.
Bob lived in many places in Texas during his lifetime. He spent his early childhood in Hamlin, Texas. He spent his school years in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School in 1961. He married the love of his life, Mary Ann Harless Bryant from Ponca City, Oklahoma on November 18, 1961. They had a great time travelling with what was then Western Electric Company. Bob gained knowledge of the telephone business and some lifelong friends through these adventures of being on ‘transfer’ in Texas cities such as Corpus Christi, Houston and Pampa.
Their daughter, Ramona Loleta, was born in Abilene in 1965, and a couple of years later, September 18, 1967 to be exact, Michael Martin was born in Abilene also. But, soon thereafter, they moved to Burkburnett where Bob and his family became involved in small town life. They lived on Preston RD where (Michael) Martin was known for regularly visiting the neighbors in his birthday suit while Ramona ran to Mary Ann to tattle on him. The Bryant family grieved immensely when Martin died from meningitis on September 18, 1969. Bob is surely hugging his son in heaven today!
Later they moved to Easy St to try to move on with life without Martin. JanLee Baptist Church, Johnnie Yates and the Masonic Lodge in Burkburnett where he earned the 32nd degree, were important influences in Bob’s life.  He was known to all he knew as a man of intelligence, integrity and fairness. The family made many good friends in Burkburnett and in Wichita Falls where Bob worked. In 1977 Bob moved his family to Hurst, Texas where he remained working at AT&T for 38 years.  During those years, he was involved in North Richland Hills Baptist Church and even though he couldn’t sing a note, he spent many hours helping the choir with the ‘Christmas Pageant’ and anything else the church asked of him.
When Bob retired, he and Mary Ann had been sponsoring a foreign exchange student, Fabio Hatori, while living in Springtown.
If asked, they would tell you they love Fabio as one of their own kids. But even with this, Bob wasn’t really ready to retire from working. He went to work for Marconi who then became Emerson.  The funny part of this transition in life is that he was now the expert (and almost indispensible) auditor that AT&T, his former employer, depended on to ensure the central office wiring got installed correctly!  Since he travelled so much with this job, Bob and Mary Ann decided to live part of their retirement dream before time slipped away.   They bought 40 acres in East Texas and built their ‘forever’ home.  For a few years, Bob was a cattleman with a herd of 8 cows and one bull named Black Tres, or as son-in-law Patrick Passmore called him ‘Sir Loin’. They have a lake behind the house for fishing and Bob loved to fish! He taught his granddaughters, Rachel Ann and Rylie Loleta Passmore, how to fish and how to drive golf carts all over the property.   Bob enjoyed sitting at the ‘Table of Knowledge’ in the mornings at ‘The Shed Cafe’ in Edom, TX near where they lived. As Bob grew older, it was evident to his family that he missed his calling. He should have been a weatherman. Any time a storm was brewing, his daughter could expect a call from her dad letting her know of impending danger.   Speculation between family members is that his grand dad, Otto M. Stice, impressed upon a young Bob, the importance of the weather to the Stice farm where Bob was raised so early in his life.
He went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday , March 18, 2015. At the time of his death, he lived in Van Zandt County, Texas near Ben Wheeler, Texas.
So many are welcoming Bob to the golden streets of heaven while those of us remain here to do the work our Lord has for us.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Harless Bryant of Ben Wheeler area, Van Zandt County, Texas; daughter, Ramona Loleta Bryant
Passmore, son-in-law, Patrick Earl Passmore; granddaughters, Rachel Ann and Rylie Loleta Passmore of Hurst; his sister, Diana Francis Bryant Patterson of Colbert, Oklahoma and her children, Shannon Lee Bryant of Lubbock, Texas and Vi’ Lynda Cherese Patterson Hancock of Colbert, Oklahoma and their children.
Arlinda Beth "Linda, Lin" CARVER STAGGS RUSHING ( 4 Apr 1943 - 31 Aug 2018)
In Memory of Arlinda (Lin) Beth Carver Rushing
Obituary of Arlinda Rushing
Arlinda (Lin) Beth Rushing, 75 years old, of Abilene, Texas passed away on August 31, 2018 in her home in Abilene.
Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday September 8th at the Southwest Park Baptist Church located at 2901 South 20th St. with Pastor Mike Woodard officiating.  Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park located at 5750 Hwy 277 South in Abilene.  Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene
Lin, as she was lovingly known, was born in Ranger Texas to Arlie and Virginia Carver on April 4, 1943.  Lin traveled and attended various schools before graduating from Abilene High School (with classmate and future husband Larry Rushing).  Lin attended and graduated from McMurry University shortly thereafter and soon began teaching.  Although she loved teaching, the urge to enter the business world was stronger.  Lin started her business “Lin’s Sportswear” in 1970.  Lin brought to Abilene style and the first ski wear store in the Big Country…. and Lin sold effortlessly.  As her business grew and her reputation for honesty and not sugarcoating the facts, Lin developed a customer base that can only be described as an extended family.  In January of 1973, Lin married Larry Rushing.  That union began an amazing partnership that lead the couple to open multiple retail locations in the great city of Abilene which eventually culminated in the Lin’s and Larry’s Plaza on South 14th.  Through her charisma and business savvy, Lin was quick to capture the attention and hearts of so many Abilenians.  Lin’s and Larry’s was fast a household name and Lin herself became an icon in the community.  Through her example and mentoring, Lin’s daughter, Stacey, began her own successful retail business.  Lin was active locally for many causes and eventually became the President of the Abilene Woman’s Club twice.  Lin delighted herself with her grandchildren, swimming often and eventually rescuing the love of her life, a poodle she so aptly named “Buddy”.
Lin was preceded in death by her father Arlie Carver, her mother Virginia Carver, and her brother Don Carver.
Lin is survived by her husband Larry Rushing, her brother John Carver, her daughter Stacey Staggs Magovern and husband Michael, her step daughters Laura Rushing and LeAnn Ratliff, and her grandchildren, Bret Alexander Clinton, Rachel Lauren Ratliff, Kaden Patrick Ward and Ryan Thomas Ratliff.
Memorials may be given, in lieu of flowers.  Lin would want donations to be made to either Rescue the Animals SPCA (www.rescuetheanimals.org) or the Blue Family Fund (www.bluefamilyfund.org).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Note: Sadly, Lin's former son-in-law is suspected of killing her but, as of  5 Oct 2021 has been found by the Court to be incompetent to stand trial.

I was looking through some of my old emails and notice yours.  I don't know if you read in the Abilene paper that we lost Les the 20th of May.  His cancer spread all over his body and he went pretty fast.   I can't remember when the reunion was going to be, just thought you might want to know.

Gay Lynn EMERY CHISM [30 Sep 1943 - 12 Jul 2021]

Obituary

Abilene, TX

Gay Lynn Emery Chism
September 30, 1943 ~ July 12, 2021 (age 77)
Obituary

Gay Lynn Emery Chism, age 77, died peacefully at home from natural causes on the evening of July 12, 2021, in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas.
She was born in Abilene, Taylor County, Texas, on September 30, 1943, to Day DeHart Emery, Jr. and Elizabeth Inez Morris.  She attended grade schools in Bryan and Victoria, Texas, then in 1957, she moved with her family back to Abilene, where she graduated in 1961 from Abilene High School.  Following graduation, she attended The University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, for two years, then returned to Abilene to attend The Hendrick Memorial Hospital School for Medical Record Administrators under the direction of her maternal aunt, Nettie Eloise (Tillie) Morris Odam.  In 1965, she moved to Houston, Texas, where she worked a year from The Baptist Memorial Hospital System and in 1966 began working for The Methodist Hospital where she stayed until 1973.
On June 15, 1968, Gay Lynn was united in marriage to her childhood friend John (Jay) Ervin Chism, Jr., of Victoria, Texas.  She, being Baptist, and he, being Catholic, were granted permission from the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome to have a double ceremony, first in the Catholic Church, secondly in the Baptist Church.  The couple exchanged afternoon vows at Sacred Heart and evening vows in The First Baptist Church in Abilene.  The evening ceremony was officiated by her fraternal uncle, Dr. Joseph Leslie Emery, and the bride was given away by her first cousin, John Will Odam.
On February 18, 1973, the Chism’s welcomed twin daughters.  Thereafter, in 1976, they moved from Houston to Richmond, Texas, where they resided until 1996.  Between 1976 and 1979, she worked as a medical record consultant, then when her daughters began school, she turned to substitute teaching with the Fort Bend County schools.  She had always been an avid swimmer, and in the summers, she taught swimming lessons for the American Red Cross to adults, children, and children with special needs.  She attended the First Baptist Church in Rosenberg, Texas.
The Chism’s, in 1996, designed their dream home and built on the side of a hill overlooking the Wimberley Valley in the Texas Hill Country.  For ten years, Gay Lynn and Jay used two of their rooms as a bed and breakfast, Cedar Hill Guest Quarters, to share their good fortune and beautiful surroundings with others.  During that time, Gay Lynn volunteered and managed the Senior Citizens Thrift Shop and was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Wimberley Women’s Civic Club, New Neighbors, book clubs, and The Daughters of the American Revolution, leading from extensive genealogy research on her maternal grandmother’s family.  She also played in a Ukulele band in New Braunfels weekly and played her Ukulele and Mandolin in the Comal County Golden Oldies Band with other Senior Citizens.
In 2006, they put their home on the market to become full-time RV’ers. Every family vacation since 1973 had been spent in one of many RVs they owned, and it was then that they made the decision to downsize to see more of the country they hadn’t seen.  When their RV travels ended, they made their permanent home in Whitney, Texas.
Gay Lynn is survived by her husband, Jay, of 53 years and their daughters, Kelli Elizabeth Chism and husband Henry Joshua (Josh) Jones of Houston; Kristi Lynn Chism and husband Richard (Rick) Clarke Boyd of Burleson; her four wonderful grandchildren, Payson Scott Boyd (17), Henry Chism Jones (16), Anne Inez Jones (14), and Autumn Pauline Boyd (13).  Remaining survivors are her sister, Sandra Eloise Emery and husband Robert Lynn Morrison; their son, Blake Emery Morrison and wife Linda Kathleen Sullivan, their children Chase Emery and Ainsley Kathleen; her brother Richard Morris Emery and Phylis Ann Thiele, their children Erica Elyse and Austin Cameron; her first cousin John Will Odam and wife Peggy Jo Kurtz, their daughter Jennifer Paige Odam and husband Charles Crippen Barnett IV; their son Matthew Kurtz Odam and wife Elizabeth Lewis Manieri.
A private service for Gay Lynn will be held August 6, 2021, at the Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene, Texas.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gay Lynn’s memory to the Wimberley Senior Citizens and/or the Alzheimer’s Association.
